You must first activate the extra characters on the screen where you enter your name. To activate them, hold L while holding Right C and Down C. Now enter the following names -

Level Select
Characters: Saturn, Spaceship, Rocket, Skull and Heart
Vortex
Type VORTEX:
Then hold down L, R and press reset on the console. Hold Reset down in order to see the Vortex.
